Welcome to the Community of Practice (CoP) page on Maternal Health (MH) Supplies! Our goal is to encourage broader participation and interaction among those of you with a high level of interest in maternal health commodities. We anticipate that this webspace will allow researchers and others working on MH supplies to better collaborate, coordinate, and learn from each other. Users will be able to contribute or download materials and pose and/or answer questions in an online discussion format.

We need your help in generating advocacy recommendations to increase access to maternal health supplies. Please take a moment to share your knowledge and insight by answering four short questions in this survey.

Why Supplies?
For many women living in developing countries, having a child is dangerous. Despite widespread agreement on how to prevent and treat the causes of maternal death and disability, women are often unable to get basic supplies that ensure a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery. Research shows that the barriers to adequate supplies include lack of financing, poor infrastructure, and broken supply chains.

Following the Reproductive Health Supplies Model
Ten years ago, family planning supplies were in a similar state. While we need to continue increasing access to family planning supplies, today we have financing mechanisms, improved infrastructure and supply chains, and an effective forum for advocacy: the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition. These developments have led to dramatic gains in the availability and accessibility of a variety of quality, affordable family planning options, saving the lives of countless women and their children. Such gains and improvements to increase access to maternal health supplies are possible, feasible, and urgently needed.
